Five Simple Storage Tips for an Easier Holiday Season Next Year

2. Sort decorations into categories that work for you

Before packing, sort "like" with "like." Witch decorations can share a bin, spiders and cobwebs can share another. Depending on how much you have, you might also want to separate indoor decorations from the pieces you use outside.

You can also think about how you decorate. Do you start with the front porch, then move indoors? Do you arrange one area at a time? Your categories can follow that rhythm, allowing you to bring out what you need without unpacking your entire collection.

Check that decorations are clean and dry before storing them, especially anything that has been outdoors! Remember to protect fragile pieces and keep accessories with the items they belong to.

Once you've sorted your collection, you'll have a better idea of your labeling system and whether you need additional storage bins.

1. Label your bins so you know what's inside

If you have to open every container to find your pumpkin candle holders, your labels may need a little more detail. A useful label tells you what you can expect before you lift the lid. “Halloween: porch decorations” or “Halloween: spiders and cobwebs” offers more guidance than “Holiday.” Choose descriptions that make sense to you and anyone else who helps decorate.

Place labels where you can see them once the bins are stored. If a container holds several types of decorations, add a short contents list. Taking a moment to label everything during takedown will save you from that tedious searching next year.

It also makes putting things away easier! When everything has a clear home, you take the guesswork out of process.

4. Store and stack with care

Once everything is packed, take a look at the space where your bins will live. Can you reach them comfortably? Can you grab what you need without everything falling?

Sturdy shelving or risers can help create more ease and flow in your space. Choose storage supports designed for the weight they will hold, keep heavier bins low, and avoid tall, unstable stacks.

Stack Halloween decorations together, Fall & Thanksgiving together, Christmas, and so on...and remember to keep labels visible! Make sure the bins with decor you use first are accessible, storing the final touches in the back.

A useful storage area lets you find what you need, easily. So next year, reaching for a bin doesn't end in an avalanche!

5. Save the small stuff for last

The little things often have a way of getting lost. Hooks, extra cords, and those special extra batteries for your candles may not be the most exciting part of decorating, but having them when you need them might be the difference between the big reveal and another trip to the hardware store.

Gather these essentials into a clearly labeled “open first” bin. Wind cords neatly and keep small items contained so you can see what you have.

As you put this season away, notice what stayed in the bins. Did you leave it there because you ran out of time, or because you no longer wanted to display it? Does each piece still bring joy, hold meaning, or have a place in the way you celebrate today? The things that do are worth keeping. The rest can go! Trust us, you'll feel so much more excited to decorate when it's all your absolute favorites.

When you’re a solopreneur, you wear a lot of hats. You’re the service provider, the client experience team, the inventory manager, the decision maker, and everything in between.

For Christie Carlin, owner of Wise Choice Tattoo Removal in Denver, that means personally caring for her clients who walks through her door while also managing everything that keeps her business running behind the scenes.

After working in the same space for many years, Christie was ready for something to change. She had considered moving into a new space that could better support the next chapter of her business, but when moving was no longer an option, the question became: How could we make the space she already had work better for her?

Christie wanted more flow, better systems, and an overall better vibe, but she was also thinking about growth. She wanted to make room for another ionic foot detox bath chair so she could expand that service, and she had dreams of eventually bringing in another laser to grow her offerings even further.

Instead of finding more space, we needed to uncover more possibility within the space she already had.

Creating a Space That Could Grow With Her

Our goal wasn’t simply to make Christie’s office look more organized. We wanted to create a space that supported the way she works now and gave her business room to grow.

We looked at the office as a whole: how Christie moved through the space, what she reached for throughout the day, where supplies were being stored, and which areas weren’t being used to their full potential.

From there, we edited, categorized, rearranged, and created intentional homes for the supplies she uses to serve her clients. We also rethought the layout itself, looking for ways to create more breathing room and a better overall flow without adding any square footage.

Instead of asking, “Where can we fit all of this?” we asked, “What does this space need to do for Christie and her business?”

That distinction can completely change a workspace.

Making Space for More

One of Christie’s goals going into the project was to find a way to add another ionic foot detox bath chair.

By rearranging the room and making better use of the square footage she already had, we created space for a second chair. That means Christie can expand the service and clients can now enjoy a detox session alongside a friend or loved one.

With two young kids, a full-time job, and a busy household, Jennie was stuck in that familiar cycle: pick up, tidy, repeat. Toys reappeared the moment they were put away. Closets overflowed with outgrown clothes. And even after a deep clean, it never really felt done.

A Year of Creating Space for What Matters

As we reflect on 2025, our team is filled with deep gratitude for the homes, families, and stories we were trusted with this year. Each space we had the privilege of transforming was about so much more than decluttering or organizing—it was about supporting people through life’s transitions – big and small.

From moving into new homes and saying goodbye to old ones, to helping children grow and allowing their spaces to grow with them; from creating peace and support for busy families, to honoring body transformations, calling in health and healing, and everything in between—each project carried its own story and intention.

With so many powerful moments throughout the year, choosing our “favorites” was no easy task. But these ten transformations earned a special place in our hearts not just for how they looked when we finished, but for how they continue to support the people living in them long after we walked out the door.

Adriana & Ryan's Closet

Adriana and Ryan love getting dressed up for events and date nights, but their shared closet lacked systems—and with a toddler at home and limited time to make daily outfit decisions, getting dressed often felt stressful instead of fun.

We reimagined their large closet as a boutique-like space that highlights favorite pieces, keeps everyday items within reach, and stores bulky seasonal clothing neatly out of the way so getting dressed now feels exciting and inspiring.

Kendra's Kitchen

Kendra is a busy mompreneur preparing to move her family into their dream home. As the owner of a successful law firm and a mom to a toddler, she couldn’t afford to lose momentum in her daily routines during the transition. So she brought Home Again in right away (literally we were already there as the moving truck pulled into the driveway).

From the pantry to the spice cabinet to the baking drawer, every system was thoughtfully set up from day one, allowing the family to settle in without added stress or disruption.

This project truly hit close to home. When Nancy and Allan, Angela's parents, hired Home Again Organizing to clear out their long-standing storage unit and garage, they knew it would be a significant undertaking—but they didn’t anticipate just how emotional and freeing the process would be.

The storage unit had been rented since 2005, following Hurricane Wilma, which destroyed their family home. While it was essential during the rebuilding years, nearly two decades later it had quietly become a time capsule—filled with forgotten furniture, décor, and emotional weight—costing over $65,000 in storage fees along the way.

Clearing the unit wasn’t just about sorting belongings. It was about releasing the past, closing a long chapter, and creating space for what’s next. After thoughtfully decluttering, donating, and reassessing what still fit their lives today, the storage unit was canceled the very same day. The garage was then reimagined with systems that truly support how Nancy and Allan live now—bringing both physical and emotional relief home.

Ada & June's Office

Ada and June—two pre-teen and teenage sisters—shared a space they called their “office,” meant for homework, creativity, and hanging out. But over time, it became stuck in a pre-teen phase: cluttered, uninspiring, and no longer a place either of them wanted to spend time in or invite friends into.

We were given the green light to go beyond our typical organizing work and take on a full transformation, including fresh paint, updated furniture, and a more elevated layout. Our goal for her home was simple yet profound: to reduce stress by reducing clutter, and to create intentional systems that support ease and natural flow throughout her daily routine.

Because she begins every day with a morning tea ritual, transforming this space became a top priority. But this wasn’t about aesthetics alone—it was about creating peace and presence from the outside in, so her body could focus on healing from the inside out.

Now, Courtney can begin each day grounded in calm, clarity, and intention—supported by a space that nurtures her healing journey and gently sets the tone for the rest of her day.

Ginette & Michael's Closet

This retired military couple had plenty of closet space, but without flow or clear systems, getting dressed felt frustrating rather than enjoyable. Clothing was scattered, shoes lacked a true home, and the space wasn’t working for how they lived day to day.

After an incredible weight-loss journey, Ginette was ready to release what no longer fit — physically and emotionally — and create a closet that allowed her to truly enjoy getting dressed again. This transformation was about more than organization; it was about honoring a new chapter and designing a space that supports confidence, ease, and everyday joy.

In one of the sweetest projects we worked on this year, this double pantry transformation was a surprise gift from a husband to his wife while she was out of town for work. The holiday season is here and for some, there is a contagious excitement to decorate and wrap gifts, plan your holiday feast and prep your home for out-of-town guests.

But for others, the overwhelm and anxiety of getting the house ready out shadows the joy of

carrying on family traditions and making new ones. For many people, that pressure comes from the feeling that they’re already behind, that their home isn’t “holiday-ready” and that every closet, cabinet, and storage bin is one more reminder of how much there is to do. This fear is real, and it often belongs to the people who need organization the most; those who want to enjoy the holidays but feel weighed down by clutter, time constraints, or the mental load of running a household.

For many, there is a constant struggle of finding time. Searching through storage boxes, cupboards, and chaos built up over the years. Wouldn’t it be easier if everything had a place?

We think so. And that’s why Home Again Organizing is all about creating space for what matters – not just in your home, but in your time and energy. Your Best Pre-Holiday Reset

Before diving into specific rooms, set the tone by giving yourself permission to work in small, manageable pockets of time.

We suggest taking 20–30 minutes per room in short, intentional bursts that make a surprisingly big impact on the flow of your holiday season. This keeps the process from feeling overwhelming and helps you see quick wins, which motivates you to keep going.

A once-over of every room, closet, cabinet, and storage area helps you understand what you have and what you should restock. Bonus points for labeling everything. Labels act like little instruction manuals, helping you, your guests, and everyone in your home know exactly where things belong and actually put them back.

This will help more than you know. Once you know what you need to hold on to and what can be donated or given away, half the battle is won. Set aside a designated place to house all of your donations and start decluttering room by room.

To make the process even easier, decide where you are going to donate your items before you begin. This helps keep the recipients of your donations in mind rather than focusing on what you are letting go of. Then, once you’ve gone through every space, drive it right to your chosen donation center.

When Kendra and her family bought their dream home in Aurora, Colorado she was excited—but overwhelmed. All the tools, flours, and sprinkles needed to whip up cookies, bake for a school event, or create a tasty holiday treat—easy to find, unexpired, and ready to use.
